Decimals Guide: Why 9 is the standard

Decimals determine the smallest possible unit of your token. Choosing the wrong number can make your token difficult to trade or display.

Why Use 9 Decimals?

Solana (SOL) itself uses 9 decimals. Using the same standard ensures maximum compatibility with all wallets, DEXs, and explorers. Most meme coins and utility tokens use 9 decimals to follow this ecosystem norm.

Impact on Supply

The number of decimals does not change your total supply, but it changes how it is stored on the blockchain. For example, a supply of 1,000,000 with 9 decimals is stored as 1,000,000,000,000,000 internal units (lamports). Solantify handles this conversion automatically.
